RSGB Contest Results 70MHz Contest CW 2019

70MHz CW CONTEST - 12th May 2019

The number of entries in the 2019 70MHz CW Contest was 25 (fifteen in section AO, ten in section AR with none in section AL). After a couple of years of increased entries, this was 24% down on 2018. A total of 48 valid callsigns appear in the logs, from five DXCC entities, 19 big squares and 32 post codes. The best DX (at 648km) took place between GM4ZUK/P and G3TCU/P.

Congratulations go to the section leaders:

  • Open - GM4ZUK/P (who also wins the Bill Capstick G3JYP Memorial Award)
  • Restricted - GW0GEI.

Entrants' comments were generally downbeat. Conditions were mainly reported as 'poor' or 'flat', the most optimistic being 'average'. Likewise activity was reported as very poor, although one entrant felt it improved later in the contest. Taken together with several reports of noise and QSB, this was clearly not a vintage event. However on the plus side there were two comments, one waxing almost lyrical, about the weather being nice!
